This is the transbuild page. Here I display old, junky Transformers figures that have been made into something new and original. The basic idea is "Take Junk and Make it Cool." Currently on display are Slagged and Smokescream. These are two Transformers I built from parts of old figures that were broken or in bad shape. They're not horribly complex, but I think they look pretty neat and are interesting. "Slagged" is the red one, which was built (rather, renovated?) from an old, broken Generation 2 red Slag Transformer. When he first came to me, he was in horrid condition. His head was loose, having had the post within his head during a particularly rough bout of playtime. He was missing a horn, missing the shoulder and rear dinosaur leg caps as well as having the glossy finish of the head and tail mostly dissolved into a rough, disgusting feeling ..something. It was in bad shape. I said to myself, "Self, there must be something fun we can do with him, since he's obviously a piece of plastic poop." And thusly Slagged was born. The next figure I built from two Starscreams, one G1 and the other G2, parts of a G1 Dirge, some weapons from generic two-for-$5 figures from drug stores, and Beast Wars Waspinator's robot head. In the end, I think he turned out VERY well. He is currently named "Smokescream" because he's completely grey, black and chrome, and was built from two Starscreams. Here is Slagged in his triceratops form. It should be apparent that nothing major has changed in his build. Notable additions to the broken Slag are: a replacement horn, large spikes at the shoulders, smaller spikes on the back and above the tail, and back mounted long range weaponry.
Here we have a less than perfect picture of Slagged in his robot mode. In this form, we relocate the back mounted guns onto the plating of his dinosaur head, allowing them more practical use in robot mode combat. The spikes are maintained at his shoulders and back, but the ones that were above his dinosaur tail are now on his knees.
Onward to...
This is Smokescream. Smokescream is composed of the dark grey vents, fists, inside arms and rudders from a Generation2 Starscream figure. Most of his body utilizes the silvery grey parts of Generation1 Starscream, specifically his legs, cockpit, back and arms. His chest and feet came from a Dirge figure, as did his wings which were spraypainted and dusted black. The picture does not show it properly, but the wings turned out very nicely. They're a nice, glossy black with a sort of opalescent shimmer. The canopy is one of the different Thundercracker canopies, I believe, or Ramjet. His weapons consist of some black Thrust launchers with chrome gun barrels from a generic figure I found at a drug store. He also utilizes two arm-mounted guns from a similar source.
..let's take a look at his back..
This view allows us to see where I located Ramjet's missiles. These missiles are used in his vehicle mode, but when he's in robot mode, they stick into two holes in his cockpit to create backmounted boosters.
..it's time to see.. jet mode!
The two arm-mounted guns visible in the first picture relocate to the cockpit, where the boosters were, serving as a foreward weapons array. The other pair of arm guns move under the wings, beside the Ramjet missiles. The missiles don't actually lock into the wings, they go into the screw holes at on the robot feet, which no longer have screws; the feet were glued together, leaving the screw-holes open. Those holes happened to perfectly fit the pegs on the Ramjet missiles. I love the look of the tailfins and the black wings, personally.
It's Slagged versus Smokescream!
A final pose to display them both in other positions. What transformers dork doesn't pose their transformers? Psh.
Copyright: My Images, my code (or lack thereof), my content. Slag, Thundercracker, Ramjet, and Starscream are Hasbro/Takara names/trademarks. They might own the parts I used to build these, but I don't know the legality of such. I do not suspect there is any infringment in turning old Transformers into, essentially, a model kit/building set. If an infringement somehow has been made on this page, it should be clear that it is for entertainment and display purposes and no infringement was intended, and ammendments to the page will be made upon official request.
