divisions : view, construct, lens

The gallery holds three primary areas of interest: view, construct, and lens. Each area focuses on specific media and expression.

The view gallery is centered on created images of a predominantly 2-dimensional nature,
the construct gallery holds pictures of assemblages, sculptures, and other pieces of a predominantly 3-dimensional nature,
and the lens gallery is to display choice photography and manipulated imagery.

The items featured below (ideally) reflect the latest additions and updates to the each section.

gallery/view
define : examination, inspection; personal interpretation, judgement, or perception; a scene, a landscape; a way of showing or seeing
describe : a collection of works utilizing paints, pens, pencils, and other media on canvas, paper, and less likely surfaces

    latest additions to this section:
Boring Still Life #8 - soft pastels on charcoal paper; One might notice, at this point, a sunflower theme - sunflowers are great, but it's mostly because so few of the other objects and arrangements on the still life are at all interesting. This is the creme de la boredom.

Fabulous Pretty Girls - paper, aluminum, photograph paper, acrylic paint, pastel dust, ink, washers, cloth, catalog clippings, play money, polyurethane, overdraft notice; this began in an Art History class with the doodle of the topless lady, then was reexplored after having been pleased by the results of Girl Chasing After Kite, Landmines Exploding, which makes this the second in a chain of experiments with polyurethane and its use as a an adherent, sealant, and coat.

Lynette (Is Afraid of the World) - acrylic on canvas; the world has changed so much, hasn't it, Squeaky?

selected topography - acrylic, oil, alkyd medium on canvas; I think I see a clearing up ahead...

True Blue Hero - acrylic, oil, alkyd medium on canvas; for Mega Man's 20th anniversary

Madge Bellamy #3 - acrylic on paper; this chick was supercute back in the .. what .. '30s? Anyway, she shot her husband for cheating on her, and was in WHITE ZOMBIE with Bela.

Sara, with Disco Vase - soft pastels on paper; I made the nose a little big, but it does resemble her. Or The Baroness. I'll probably pick this up again and tweak it, but for now I need to forget the feeling of soft pastels in my hands.

gallery/construct
define : to form by assembly; to build or create; something formed or constructed
describe : gallery involving assemblages, sculptures, and other constructions

    latest additions to this section:
Coily Candle Cave - Ceramics - white dogwood clay with red streaks from extrusion; first ceramic thing I've made in like twelve years, so I wanted to start small with a roughly coffee-can-sized votive candle holder ... but it looks sorta like a cave house thing.

The Rhinosurreal - appropriated toy rhinoceros, meat thermometer, paper mache, acrylic paint; surreal exploitation of a found object, as per the project guidelines for a visual arts class.
    The Rhinosurreal from Another Angle

Los Muertos Borrachos - paper mache, fire, acrylic paint, polyurethane; I made this set of six silly martini-swigging skeletons a few weeks before The Kingdom of Loathing launched its first El Dia de Los Muertos Borrachos, so I took it on as the title, since I had been lost for one. The project for which these produced stipulated small art objects that would fit into an Art-o-Mat machine, which is a repurposed cigarette vending machine that dispenses - wait for it! - small art objects. I should probably send one to Jick one of these days.

Seated Woman, After Picasso - cardboard, hot glue, acrylic paint; I'm not fond of Picasso, so when we were assigned to produce a three-dimensional representation of a Cubist piece, and the most interesting one I saw was a Picasso, I made several endeavors to separate my piece from Picasso's painting, notably with a change of pose and more intensely cubist shaping.
You can see the original Picasso painting at this site entitled Woman Seated from 1908.

gallery/lens
define : a formed transparent material, usually glass or plastic, with surfaces shaped to refract light to form an image; a biconvex, transparent body located posterior to the iris in the eye; to film or photograph a subject
describe : photography and computer manipulations of images captured via the lens

    latest additions to this section:
Jesus Is Coming : one can see the absolutely most horrific things when traveling through rural Georgia

Dress Forms : they keep the lamp warm at night.

The Rhinosurreal's Incursion - photograph manipulation on painted plywood panel; the ass end of the Rhinosurreal bravely charges into unfamiliar territory to retrieve the rest of his body, and meets with resistance.

The Rhinosurreal's Audience - photograph manipulation on painted plywood panel; the ass end of the Rhinosurreal speaks with the phantom face, but all does not go well as the ass end of the Rhinosurreal does not have a mouth. Desperate, the Rhinosurreal will have to forcibly take back the rest of himself.

The Rhinosurreal's Escape - photograph manipulation on painted plywood panel; the Rhinosurreal, now more or less complete, escapes with the aid of flying brains, with flying vampire teeth in hot pursuit.
